Wrap-around Porch Addition

PROJECT LOCATION:  Park Street - Champaign, Illinois

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This project was the winner of the 2002 Heritage Award for the design and construction of the wrap-around porch on this historically important house. This home was built in 1860 for Rev. McKinley, and had previously been moved twice.

The new wrap-around porch addition enhances the look of the existing house but is also design-sensitive to the era in which it was built. Brick piers were placed under the turned wood posts, lattice work was added under the porch, and the decking and ceiling of the porch were constructed of Douglas fir (vertical grain) tongue-in-groove, 1 x 4 boards. (The wood was stained and not painted).

The large existing picture window was replaced with 3 smaller Pella windows which were also more in tune with the original design of the home.

AGE OF STRUCTURE:  1860

STYLE OF HOUSE:   2-story
