Bedroom/Sunroom Addition

PROJECT LOCATION:  Champaign, Illinois

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:  A two story addition was added to this 80-year-old home.

On the first floor, new sliding doors were added near the kitchen to provide entrance into the new sunroom. The room contains a fireplace and a large window seat facing the front of the home. Sliding glass doors open onto a patio. The tile floor was designed with a diagonal layout and oak boards outlining the diamond shapes.

On the second floor, an existing linen closet was removed to provide an entrance into the new bedroom. A new linen closet was also added.

The new exterior brick was chosen to match the existing brick. The stucco facade on the second floor replicates the existing stucco facade and details. A new roof was added to the entire home.

This home was chosen as winner of the 2005 Heritage Award by the Preservation and Conservation Association in Champaign, Illinois. Projects receiving this award are chosen for their achievement in designing a new addition, yet still respecting the historical heritage and architectural design of the existing home.
